jour fixe initiative frankfurt

The jour fixe initiative frankfurt organizes thematic series of events dealing with issues relating to art, society, culture and politics from an emancipatory perspective. In cooperation with basis e.V., the series "The Future of Progress", "Politics and Truth" and "Dialectics of Technology" (together with the jour fixe initiative berlin) have taken place to date.

The jour fixe initiative frankfurt will be back from January 2025 with the event series "The Future of History": in lectures and events, we will address the role of history in social and cultural change processes and ask about the driving forces that have driven change in the past - and may also set it in motion in the future.

More urgently than ever, the conditions of global society and of its natural foundations are in need of change. Change, however, is only possible if the existing situation is considered as changeable. This makes debates about utopia, about the future, about the possibility of progress, and about the goals of change so essential. For precisely the same reason, we also have to ask about history. If the existing situation can be changed, change must already have happened in the past. In other words: there must have been history. But what exactly is history? What is it that moves history, and what are the structures of this movement? In which way and in which forms does change happen? Is there one history, or multiple histories, and if so, how do these histories interact? What is the relationship between history, present and future? Or, to put it differently: Is a better future possible without an emancipatory appropriation of history?
