Ouissem Moalla's artistic approach is based on the exploration of the image as well as textual, historical and anthropological analyses of cultural hybridizations. He is mainly concerned with language and the peculiarities of contemporary societies. Ouissem Moalla focuses on social characteristics such as architecture, visual representations and popular artistic production as well as their historical origins. His mostly serial works in the form of performances, painting and sculpture encompass the body, materiality and movement in space and are composed of heterogeneous components.
In the exhibition CLAVIS TABULA, Ouissem Moalla invites the viewer to observe the state of his research on local historical topics. He has taken individual elements from his book research in Frankfurt to create a system of literary expression. He uses gloves whose phalanx positions are marked with alphabets so that they can be used like a keyboard. The concept involves ergonomic studies and variations so that the gloves are as functional as possible. But the work also includes an aesthetic, performative action that translates literary expression into a choreography of hands. The visitors are experiment with this means of expression with the help of several available gloves and demonstration videos.
