We are delighted to be presenting Michaela Meise’s project Das schwache Haus (The weak house) as the first exhibition in our new rooms at Gutleutstrasse 8–12 from 26 January–8 March 2008.
All of the works shown under the title Das schwache Haus go beyond merely formal concerns to draw on the multifaceted, polyvalent semantics of the architectural, thus illuminating the semantic plane that architecture inaugurates in its various contexts.
Underlying Michaela Meise’s works is a minimalist tradition, though she broadens the phenomenological status of the object with cultural, historical, and personal aspects. The works in the present exhibition deepen Meise’s longstanding interest in architecture and in the semantic fields that architectural artifacts generate both historically and culturally. Central here is a grasp of the architectural structure, building, or house no less existential than it is phenomenological, and that uses architecture as a means of referencing a wide range of historical and cultural contexts.
Michaela Meise was born in 1976; she lives and works in Berlin.
