18:30 Conversation with E.N. Mirembe and Yana Tsegay
19:30 Performance Tritagonist by Dolorosa

Join us for a conversation and reading with E.N. Mirembe and Yana Tsegay.

E.N. Mirembe's curatorial practice attends to literary and visual cultures through a black studies lens. They studied History at the University of the Western Cape. Their writing is published in Camera Austria, Artforum, Contemporary And, Africa is a Country, African Arguments, and others.

Yana Tsegay’s artistic practice moves between painting, installation, performance and text, and is grounded in a Black critical sensibility. For the past decade, her work has questioned historical narratives and the very notion of the origins of the human. Her site-specific works engage with the orders and emotional charges that places carry within European conditions. Hallway Exhale is Tsegay’s first major artist book, bringing together this body of work in a single publication. It includes an introduction by Sonja Borstner, an essay by E.N. Mirembe, and a conversation with Yana Tsegay and Arootin Mirzakhani. Hallway Exhale is designed by Kathrin Baumgartner.

In their live performance Tritagonist, Dolorosa tells a short, nonverbal audio drama about the perceived loss of privilege and the obsession with being the hero of the story. The celebration concludes with a set by Dolorosa and chilled drinks.Free entry. The book will be available for a donation (EUR 20–25) below the regular price.

Publication supported by Hessian Ministry of Higher Education, Research, Science and the Arts and Cultural Department of the City of Frankfurt am Main. Event supported by Frankfurter Miteinanderfonds, Stiftung Polytechnische Gesellschaft.
