residency period: September 1 – November 30, 2026

The AIR Frankfurt and AIR Offenbach programmes promote contemporary visual arts and fosters international exchange between the city of Frankfurt and emerging art contexts worldwide.

As part of our long-standing partnership with the Goethe-Institut Malaysia, the AIR programmes are offering a new collaboration between basis e.V. and Think & Tink in Kuching, Malaysia. Think & Tink is an independent, community-driven space located in the Ang Cheng Ho district. Closely connected to its immediate surroundings, including kopitiams (traditional coffee shops), hardware stores, and the nearby Petanak Market, it operates as a platform for artistic, social, and material experimentation in relation to local infrastructures.

The residency invites artists and creatives whose practices and researches are grounded in community-oriented approaches and engagement with ecological systems and locally situated knowledge. Residents will be hosted at Think & Tink and are expected to engage with the social, spatial, and material conditions of the neighbourhood, fostering direct exchange with its immediate communities. This may take shape through a range of approaches, including community-based research and execution, culinary practices, industrial material research, and forms of knowledge production and documentation, contributing to a grounded and reciprocal process of exchange.
