basis.aperçu
A joint Goethe Institut Paris and basis e.V. project

To kick-off the interdisciplinary FOKUS FRANKFURT events program, Goethe-Institut together with the production and exhibition platform basis e.V. Frankfurt is hosting a group show entitled “basis.aperçu”. A selection of works by eight local artists offers an insight (un apérçu) into the local work of the basis studio and thus reflects on artistic endeavors in the city.

Three years ago, Goethe-Institut Paris initiated an events cycle with the goal of highlighting the great diversity of cultural centers in Germany over and above Berlin. While in France the majority of cultural activities still take place in Paris, Germany is characterized by quite unique cultural diversity thanks to its long-standing federal structure and despite the ongoing hype surrounding the capital city. After successful presentations by Leipzig, Hamburg and Rhenish artists, in 2017 the focus will be on the Frankfurt metropolitan region.

The “basis.aperçu” exhibition kicks off the interdisciplinary FOKUS FRANKFURT program and seeks to offer insights into the diverse positions represented by the artists who work in the basis studios. The group exhibition will feature selected pieces by young and highly promising artists, whose works are characterized by great rigor and quality. The exhibition will include paintings and drawings, 3D objects and filmic and text-based media, thus offering insights not only into art production in Frankfurt but also on how these artists address current artistic discourses.

The exhibition will take place in the Goethe Institut premises in Paris.

NUIT BLANCHE AT THE GOETHE-INSTITUT
AS PART OF THE BASIS.APÉRCU EXHIBITION
OCTOBER 7, 2017 FROM 8 P.M.

On the occasion of this year’s Nuit Blanche in Paris, Goethe-Institut and basis e.V. will be presenting performances and installations by Frankfurt artists as part of the basis.aperçu exhibition. The annual cultural festival has chosen “Faire oeuvre commune” – “Do things Together” as its motto. The artists selected – Levent Kunt, Hannes Seidl and choreography duo Billinger & Schulz – will present works specially made or adapted for the Nuit Blanche in which they reflect on site-specific aspects and impressions of city life in Paris.
