We are delighted to be presenting the exhibition Practicalities (La vie matérielle), a collaboration between the Master in Fine Arts at ECAL/Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne and Willem de Rooij’s class at the Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, from September 19 to October 13, 2013.

Outcome of a year-long exchange program between students of both art schools, the results of the project initiated by Willem de Rooij and Stéphanie Moisdon are to be presented at basis e.V. The group exhibition in Frankfurt represents the second part of the exhibition project that already started in July 2013 at 1m3 in Lausanne. As with its Swiss counterpart Influence, the aim of Practicalities (La vie matérielle) is to juxtapose and compare current modes of production and working processes among recent art works.
By bringing together the various practices and presenting the results at the respectively “other” site, visitors are enabled to compare entirely different working modes and approaches to the making of art. Parallel to the works of the Lausanne Fine Arts class, a weekly-changing Städel class art program will be on view for the duration of the Frankfurt exhibition.
A speculative art space opens up in which the young artists explore the material limitations and utopian perspectives of the works originally produced in the art academy context.

7:00 pm Introduction: Willem de Rooij and Stéphanie Moisdon
7:30 pm Delusion: A Screening of Perfume Commercials, by Alexander Bacon, Buck Ellison & Henrik Olai Kaarstein
