Parfümiert mit Dynamit -
Sommerschau der Studios 2015

We are pleased to present the exhibition "Parfümiert mit Dynamit" from July 17 to August 20, 2015 and would like to invite you to the opening on July 16, 2015 at 7 pm.

The exhibiton presents 10 selected works by artists/groups working in the basis studio-houses at Gutleut-, Elbe- and Linnéstraße, in which basis provides 126 studios for over 150 artists. The external curated show gives an insight of the artistic processes of the artists working on site. This year's curator is Gürsoy Doğtaş. In each of five exhibition spaces he brings together two artistic positions to collaborate on one installation. Mutually and alternately the works serve both as a backdrop and as a presentation. Especially the charakter of enactement is thereby a central aspect.

With a sound performance of Dirk Krecker and Martin Bott the Finissage of the exhibiton takes place on August 20, 2015, on the occasion of the Bahnhofsviertelnacht.

Prolog to (not subject of) the exhibition:

ACT 1 / Scene 1

A sparsely furnished upper middle-class apartment. Living room and bedroom are both visible. A thin wall separates the two rooms. Two taciturn men, sunk in thought and driven by some dark desire, come together to talk. It is the night of November 24, 1970.

YUKIO MISHIMA This cold arousal is burning up all fear inside me. By the hour we draw closer to our grand longing.
MASAKATSU MORITA and YUKIO MISHIMA (chanting) To die for our love of each other, for our country, for our Tenno.
YUKIO MISHIMA There’s no way I can sleep tonight.
MASAKATSU MORITA Me neither … but the night must not change our resolve. (Goes to the record player, puts on music by Umm Kulthum)
YUKIO MISHIMA No chance. I’m familiar with the night through to dawn.
MASAKATSU MORITA and YUKIO MISHIMA (whispering) In your eyes I beheld the deep night.
MASAKATSU MORITA Did I seem despairing?
MASAKATSU MORITA and YUKIO MISHIMA (singing with Umm Kulthum) Illi shouftouh kabli ma tshoufak a'inaih.[1]
YUKIO MISHIMA (shaking his head restrainedly) No, imperturbable. Longing and fulfillment were very close in your eyes and not a trace of nervousness or nihilism. I, on the other hand, despairingly sought the correct dose for the intensities of agony and torture.
MASAKATSU MORITA You did not seem the least bit anxious or despairing, but rigid, dismembering—fixated on men, military-looking men, so as to subdue them to your desires. Which meant that you wanted them to subject you to their lust.
YUKIO MISHIMA I wanted to suffocate in a man’s chokehold, driven crazy by the smell of his underarm hair.
MASAKATSU MORITA How did you manage to seduce them?
YUKIO MISHIMA By becoming the same as I saw them.
MASAKATSU MORITA How do you mean?
YUKIO MISHIMA I sprayed myself with dynamite and exploded in their arms. MASAKATSU MORITA and YUKIO MISHIMA (running to their wardrobe and putting on the fantasy uniforms of their private army, warbling) Elegance and brutality, elegaaaaance and bruuuuutaaaaality rhymes with dick-in-paaaaants and auauauauauthooooority, but also with ignoraaaaance and cuuuuriooooosity.

[1] Arabic: Whatever I saw before I beheld you was a sheer waste of life.
