Netai Halup
Thursday, 17.09.2026 - 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

location

basis Project space, Elbestraße 10 (courtyard), 60329 Frankfurt am Main

We warmly invite you to the opening of the exhibition “5817 And Outward” by Netai Halup on September 17 at 6 pm.

The works in the exhibition are a result of Netai Halup’s research through maps of the Frankfurt region and outward, identified as “5817” in the German mapping index. Archived maps were reworked, reimagined and transformed into enigmas that invite the viewer to roam through concrete-made topographies. The maps that were pulled out of the archives become objects in which traces of imaginary wandering are drawn and embedded within the concrete’s surface.

A map’s purpose is to orient one in space, guide through unknown territory, and inform about its surroundings. Halup uses a cartographic language as a means of leaving traces from the machinery of memory. Engaging with maps is a continuation of Halup’s work in recent years. It’s a tool to study the past, but also to fabricate new narratives. By tracing, erasing, and inventing new maps, Halup proposes new concrete lands to navigate through.

Netai Halup is an artist, writer, and art educator. His practice focuses on sculptures that explore tension, destruction, and memory. Halup’s research moves between mapping, writing, collecting, and engaging with communities, which serve as thinking tools in the development of his sculptural work.

The three-month residency in Frankfurt is a cooperation with Artport, Tel Aviv.
