We cordially invite you to the first talk in the context of the exhibition Red Mercuy by Ella Littwitz.
Lecture by Dr. phil. David Kaller: Visibility and Withdrawal: Israel's Territorial Borders in Art
The lecture will focus on the representation of Israel's territorial borders in art. The starting point will be works from the exhibition Ella Littwitz - Red Mercury. Territorial borders represent complex structures of space and power. The lecture will show how a visibility of territorial borders is produced on an aesthetic level and, beyond that, how a specific understanding of space and power is demonstrated. In this context, artistic works by Alighiero Boetti, Francis Alÿs and Mona Hatoum will be referred to in addition to works from the exhibition.
David Kaller studied art and German studies in Paderborn, Budapest, Vienna and Düsseldorf. He was a PhD student and research assistant in the DFG doctoral program Automatisms - Cultural Techniques for Reducing Complexity. In the context of his doctorate, he had research stays in Great Britain, Israel and Singapore. His dissertation Territories and Borders in Art was published by transcript Verlag in 2021. He is a member of Prof. Dr. Horst Bredekamp's colloquium.
The lecture will be held in german language.
