Im Rahmen von AIR_Frankfurt und Helsinki International Artist Programme (HIAP) freuen wir uns, Jaana Laakkonen als aktuelle Residence-Künsterlin bei basis e.V. zu begrüßen.
Das Artist-in-Residence Programm „Air_Frankfurt“ wird seit 1990 vom Kulturamt Frankfurt betrieben und neuerdings gemeinsam mit basis e.V. ausgerichtet. Bis Ende Dezember wird Jaana als erste Künstlerin im neu ausgebauten Apartment und Studio bei basis e.V. wohnen und arbeiten.

Jaana Laakkonen (*1985 Joensuu, Finnland) spricht über ihre künstlerische Praxis sowie ihre Projektideen für ihren dreimonatigen Aufenthalt in Frankfurt. In ihrer malerischen Praxis beschäftigt sich Laakkonen unter anderem mit den Erwartungen, die an die zeitgenössische Malerei gestellt werden sowie deren Ausstellungskonditionen. Dabei hinterfragt sie die tradierten Subjekt-Objekt Beziehungen.*

Wir freuen uns auf einen anregenden Abend in herbstlich-gemütlicher Atmosphäre.

Der Talk findet in englischer Sprache statt. Der Eintritt ist frei.
 

*Statement der Künstlerin:
„In my work I am examining what could it mean for an artistic practice to take the knottiness and intra-active nature of the world seriously and give up arranging the ways of thinking and doing according to binaries. Painting and practices related to it, cannot stay caught inside the square shaped canvas or exhibiting space, for they are doings that touch and operate in other things, or rather, phenomena. If not knowledge production, at least painting practices are being-, doing-, relation-, position- and story-production practices and that is why it matters how the apparatus is arranged. I keep asking: Who are allowed or forced to do things with me and when or how much? What are we doing and where are we working? Who are doing me and what am I doing to and within them? How to be with them well or at least in a better manner? If I do not want that narrow, clear story, how should I communicate, do, exhibit... responsibly? How to be with works and exhibitions, and could they push to confront the conflict between binaries and reality?“
