Das Projekt „State of the City“ konzentriert sich auf die komplexe Beziehung zwischen Handel und soziokulturellem Kontext der Städte Antwerpen, Rotterdam und Frankfurt am Main. Alle drei Städte verbindet ihre wichtige Rolle im Kontext des globalen Handels: Antwerpen und Rotterdam verfügen über Welthäfen; in Frankfurt am Main befindet sich die Europäische Zentralbank und der Flughafen. Die Ausstellung „State of the City“ wurde vorbereitet durch dreimonatige Residenzen, bei denen je zwei Künstler_Innen aus Rotterdam, Antwerpen und Frankfurt ausgewählt wurden, um vor Ort in je einer der anderen Städte kreativ zu arbeiten. Die Produktions- und Ausstellungsplattform basis e.V. präsentiert die künstlerischen Ergebnisse dieser Residenzen in Form einer thematischen Gruppenausstellung. Geprägt von der facettenreichen Herangehensweise der Künstler_Innen zeigt die Ausstellung sowohl den künstlerischen Umgang mit sozialen und gesellschaftlichen, als auch mit ökonomischen und geografischen Aspekten der einzelnen Städte.

Das Ausstellungsprojekt „State of the City“ erfolgt in Zusammenarbeit der Produktions- und Ausstellungsplattform basis e.V. mit AIR_Frankfurt, AIR Antwerpen und der Stichting Charlois aan het Water anlässlich der Frankfurter Buchmesse 2016.

We are delighted to present the exhibition "State of the City" by Ghislain Amar, Stijn Van Dorpe, Mirte Van Duppen, Levent Kunt, Karl Philips and Ani Schulze  from October 14 to December 18, 2016. The opening is on October 13, 2016 at 7 pm.

The project “State of the City” focuses on the complex relationship between trade and sociocultural contexts in the cities of Antwerp, Rotterdam, and Frankfurt am Main. Common to all three cities is their important role in global trade: Antwerp and Rotterdam possess world harbors; the European Central Bank and a major airport are situated in Frankfurt am Main. Preparation for the exhibition “State of the City” took the form of three-month residencies, with two artists chosen from each of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Frankfurt am Main working creatively on site in one of the other cities. The basis e.V. production and exhibition platform will be presenting the results of these artist residencies in a theme-based group exhibition. The exhibition is marked by the artists’ multifaceted approaches and presents their artistic handling of the different social and societal as well as economic and geographical aspects of the three cities.

“State of the City” is initiated by AIR Antwerpen in cooperation with AIR_Frankfurt, foundation Charlois aan het Water/Rotterdam and basis e.V.
