We are pleased to present the film The Watson's Hotel by Ragunath V, Nathaniel Knop and Peter Rippl together with selected photographic works by Ragunath V in an exhibition from June 2 to June 30.
The Watson's Hotel (2019) documents the history of the former noble hotel in Mumbai, which was built in the middle of the 19th century.
The film shows everyday life in the building and captures not only the history of the hotel, but also that of the local people, who have created their own microcosm by appropriating it. Constantly threatened by collapse and eviction, the building nevertheless serves them as a place of refuge and stability and is just as firmly anchored in the cityscape. With the help of individual interviews with the residents and atmospheric shots of the building's interior and its immediate surroundings, the film provides an insight into the colonial past, but also into the multicultural present of India, which permeates the neighbourhood of the former hotel.
The film (81 min.) starts at 2:15 pm, 4:00 pm and 5:30 pm.
