Eröffnung: Hinda Weiss - Frankfurt Notes Wir laden Sie herzlich zur Eröffnung der Ausstellung Frankfurt Notes von Hinda Weiss im basis Projektraum ein. Ruinen, die geschmückt mit schwarz-gelbem Warnband, seltsam anthropomorphe Züge annehmen, ein Schwarm Vögel der in märchenhafter Umgebung vor einem futuristisch anmutenden Turm seine Kreise zieht, ein verlassener Schreibtisch unter einem gläsernen Kubus, der inmitten eines Parks zu fluoreszieren scheint.
Die Quellen von Hinda Weiss‘ Frankfurt Notes sind durch und durch „real“ und doch grenzen die atmosphärischen Bilder zugleich ans Fantastische, lassen eine mal surreale, mal spielerisch absurde Qualität aufscheinen. Die Foto- und Videoarbeiten entstanden während eines 3-monatigen Aufenthalts in Frankfurt beim Spazieren, Suchen und Entdecken. Eigentümlich unwirklich erscheint die Stadt durch die Kamera der umherstreifenden Besucherin. Mal ganz ohne, mal mit nur sanften digitalen Eingriffen lässt Hinda Weiss ihre Bilder auf der Grenze von Fiktion und Realität balancieren, ohne ihren Schwebezustand aufzulösen. Hinda Weiss ist Fotografin und Videokünstlerin und lebt in Tel Aviv und New York. Sie hat einen MFA der Columbia University und erhielt zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, Preise und Stipendien, darunter den Artis Exhibition Grant und den Outset Contemporary Young International Artist Prize. Ihre letzten beiden Einzelausstellungen waren bei Ludlow 38 in New York und im Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel. Die Ausstellung findet in Kooperation mit den Jüdischen Kulturwochen 2019 statt und bildet zugleich den Abschluss von Hinda Weiss‘ AIR_Frankfurt Residenz in Zusammenarbeit mit ARTPORT in Tel Aviv. Opening: Hinda Weiss - Frankfurt Notes We cordially invite you to the opening of the exhibition Frankfurt Notes by Hinda Weiss at basis project space. Ruins adorned with black and yellow warning ribbons, taking on strange anthropomorphic traits, a swarm of birds circling in fairytale surroundings in front of a futuristic tower, an abandoned desk under a glass cube that seems to fluoresce in the middle of a park.
The sources of Hinda Weiss' Frankfurt Notes are real through and through, yet the atmospheric images at the same time border on the fantastic, revealing a sometimes surreal, sometimes playfully absurd quality. The photo and video works were taken during a 3-month stay in Frankfurt while walking, searching and discovering. The city appears strangely unreal through the camera of the wandering visitor. Sometimes completely without, sometimes with only gentle digital interventions, Hinda Weiss lets her images balance on the border between fiction and reality without dissolving their state of suspension. Hinda Weiss is a photographer and video artist based in Tel Aviv and New York. She holds an MFA from Columbia University and has received numerous awards, prizes and scholarships, including the Artis Exhibition Grant and the Outset Contemporary Young International Artist Prize. Her last two solo exhibitions were at Ludlow 38 in New York and at the Herzliya Museum of Contemporary Art in Israel. The exhibition takes place in cooperation with the Jewish Culture Weeks 2019 and at the same time concludes Hinda Weiss' AIR_Frankfurt residence in partnership with ARTPORT in Tel Aviv.
