Subjective expectations influence our actions. These are shaped by our experiences, by what we have learnt and observed, and at the same time they are based on our desires and the hope for a particular outcome. Whether these will be fulfilled or not depends on external factors; their result remains uncertain up until a particular point. Our individual and collective expectations shape our social life as a society. They are determined by the urge to create an optimized way of life and a course of events we can foresee. But what happens if our expectations do not yield results? If they remain unfulfilled, or our presumptions and the result do not correspond?
The exhibition "Rumors of Glory" brings together works that operate within the field of tension between implied anticipation and actual progression. They themselves evoke expectations, playfully guiding these in particular directions, or negotiating their failure. Allusively suggested actions as well as clear-cut knowledge and classifications remain in a kind of muted domain of hearsay. “Rumors of Glory” shows both affirmative and critical positions which address these unfulfilled expectations while at the same time being characterized by the aspect of remaining in a state of unyielding hope and trepidation.
