exhibition, reading room & studios
A major extension of the initial concept was effected by the opening of the premises at Gutleutstrasse 8–12 in 2008. A further 75 studios were made available here. On the ground floor of the premises are exhibition spaces totaling 350m2 in area. These are used for the exhibition program as well as for events of widely varying formats such as workshops and lecture courses but also presentations and other forms of artistic activity. The reading room has also been located here since 2012.
studios, workshops & project room
Since 2004 basis has offered 45 work and production spaces at Elbestrasse 10 for artists from a wide range of disciplines. In addition to the individually occupied studios there is an onsite silkscreen printing workroom offering courses in silkscreen printing to those interested. The premises also include a woodworking room as well as a project and presentation space. These facilities can be used free of charge by occupants of the basis studios after prior arrangement.
basis extends its supply for young artists by providing 4 additional studiofloors on Niddastraße 59 (Bahnhofsviertel) from March 2016 on. The space (approximately 360 square meter in total) is provided as temporary use until summer 2017.
In line with its continual efforts to improve working conditions for artists in Frankfurt, basis has been active at a third location in Linnéstrasse 3 since September 2012. Here the organization offers further studios for artists from the pure and applied arts. Four large-scale ground-floor studios occupy a total area of around 400m2 in which eight artists are currently working. This most recent extension of its activities together with its Elbestrasse 10 and Gutleutstrasse 8–12 premises means that basis now offers a total of 126 studios and currently supports 151 artists.
