we are pleased to be presenting the group exhibition creating a "we" from September 4 to October 18, 2020 at basis. the opening is on thursday, September 3, 2020 at 7 pm.
Taking Isabelle Stengers, Vinciane Despret & collective’s publication Women Who Make a Fuss: The Unfaithful Daughters of Virginia Woolf*—as well as the transdisciplinary collective thinking and producing practices—as starting points, the exhibition Creating a “we” is questioning the representation of “we” in (western) art writing and it’s agencies in contemporary art institutions. By creating a new or alternative dimension, another living entity by HazMatLab collective, we are building our own bubble to resurrect the we-history in art, by asking if there is even any. This living space will host artists, thinkers, collectives, writers and anyone who would agree to disagree on misrepresentation and underrepresentation in our current art scene and facilitate as an open mike for all. Walls will talk, nails will witness, doors will laugh and language will evolve. And together with the podcast and reading group sessions, the exhibition's public program will focus on the transnational examples of how to create a "we" through visual and oral records in current art discussions.
the basis summer exhibition is curated by mine kaplangı, guest curator of the air_frankfurt curator in residence program of 2018/2019.
