Unleash the beast

A film by Catherina Cramer and Giulietta Ockenfuß

The film "Unleash the Beast" deals with questions of origin and identity. In the fictional documentation one follows the main character, a female aquatic ape. This character personifies a narrative of the decent of humanity that differs from narratives that, in the western society, are
put as truthfulness, such as the darwinistic or the christian narrative of Adam and Eve. At the same time, information is given to the recipient in an investigative way. Following a genuine curiosity for Mexican culture and practises of everyday life, the two artists Cramer and
Ockenfuß went to verify their assumptions and fantasies towards the country and its people. They led numerous interviews with different characters that tell their stories and talk about their relation with, and their usage of the element water. For the costumes, the artists worked together with famous Mexican artisans, such as Gilberto Linares. They built masks, that personify the aquatic ape and other sea animals.

The documentation of the talk is available online on our Vimeo account.

This event is part of the public programme of the exhibition creating a 'we'.
